Our History
Achievable Health’s grassroots beginnings stem from a common quest
among families of children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities
to help other families achieve an improved quality of life.
People with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families often experience high rates of poverty and economic hardship due to high costs of living and medical expenses. These families are unable to afford costly, yet much needed, medical services, lacking the most basic necessities, including food, clothing and housing.
To speak to these issues, a group of fearless parents embarked on a journey to positively impact struggling families one life at a time. In 1996, their efforts led to the birth of Achievable Health, an innovative safety-net organization designed to help families overcome financial emergencies. Their objective was not to provide charity, but to serve as a catalyst to help families get back on their feet and have the chance to succeed at life.
For the past 20 years, Achievable Health has worked continually to respond to the evolving needs of our community. Over the years, our programs have addressed financial, social, developmental, wellness, and healthcare needs. With our newest focus on healthcare, we have created a new and unique model of care for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.
Our vision is to reduce the health disparities of community members while planting the seed that changes the entire healthcare delivery system for medically vulnerable individuals.
